Creating Hyperlink Webpage
I must say that I am really becoming better diverse in my computer skills. I am enjoying learning about the different databases and means of searching the on search engines. This week's lesson was pretty informative with exporting the bookmark page into a hyperlinked page in WORD...I didn't even know that was a feature. I had to go and revamp my bookmarks to make the titles shorter and something that I would know exactly what it was....I made it more personal so I would automatically know the link. I really thought that it was going to be a tad bit more complicated, but to my surprise it was all that bad. I'm getting better with all this technology:)
Web Presentations
The Web presentations were really interesting. It was cool to see the creativity in the topics that people chose to do and the information that people found made it even better. Many of the topics were pertaining to a different group of people, but still very useful.
For instance, I thought John started of the presentations really well. Although, what seemed pretty simplistic, actually offered a unique view at the 2-3 zone. He found good and productive information. His links were very well organized and each link served a purpose. I really enjoyed the Marsha Sharp link, she is one of legendary coaches in women's basketball so I personally enjoyed that link.
Philip, really had a different topic. I tried to go back and re-look at his site, but I was unable to pull it up. It was very different and something that I would not have thought; it was interesting and but something that is much needed by graduating seniors, which is why I appreciated his topic so much. There are several seniors who have a degree but have no idea what other different types of topics there are out there. You can tell from his sources that his searches were successful, because during his presentation his cites were very supportive and very well mapped out. His details of his subheadings were short, descriptive, and to the point. He did a really good.
WEB Page Evaluation Checklist
I must admit at first I did not see the purpose of doing the checklist, but as I went on and performed the task myself I understood the benefits of it. The checklist forced you to take notice and realize the significance and credibility of the page that I was searching. It made me look at the selected sites at a more in depth look. Often times, I know I find myself forgetting how easy it is to create a website and put whatever it is you want on the web about any topic. But, the purpose of the checklist, which I now understand, helps you to look at whether the author has credentials and if the site as a whole is credible. This is done by the questions the checklist has you seek out on the website.

Creating my website was actually pretty fun. I enjoyed going through all the steps to prepare it for being published. Writing my bio was interesting...it is not normal for most people to write about themselves, I could just be different though:) But, trying to find the proper picture was a bit of a task, because of the pixels and due to the fact that I didn't really know what to put. I did not want to put a picture of cells, just for the fact that's not every appealing. I wanted something that was going to catch the "naked eye" and be of interest and unique to want to view the rest of the web. Picking out templates and matching was fun:) Overall, I'm learning about new technology tactics more and more with each activity.
Big 6 Activity
This activity was really interesting. This activity forced you evaluate and problem solve for yourself. Through the six different steps, it allowed me to view the information on websites and really be able to process it. I can see the beneficial use and why higher education facilities use this tactic so that students have a deeper understanding of finding, using, applying, and evaluating information. This activity also forced you to use and seek information that would be specific to your needs of researching. The process of actually evaluating a Big 6 activity was a way to put what you've read and now have to apply it, so you could see and experience for yourself.
Copyright Quiz and Fair Use Scenario
Going through the Copyright was quiz was definitely a learning experience. Those instances were ones that happen frequently, and besides a few, most do not really think about the copyright laws. It was a good teaching tool, I now am more conscious about the laws concerning copyright. Copyrighting has become something that most people just don't play much attention to, but this quiz has helped that. The Fair Use scenario was really helpful to see a very real situation, in terms of copying a few things and whether you should search for permission, made me really think of what I would do in that situation. The Fair Use checklist was a really good resource and should be used more often. I enjoy reading about something and then being able to put it into use.
Web Activity for Information Problem Solving
Completing this task was interesting! I composed a Webquest for students to participate and get involved in learning about Sickle Cell. I took the approach of making it directly affect them by having one of their classmates stricken with it. I had to critically think about how the school age children would learn and retain the information in the best manner, and I figured to pick channels that were of the most interest to them. That's why I picked groups (learning from eachother and interacting) and computers. It was difficult for me to think in a different gear and think in steps and what's easiest for the kids and not me, but at the same time I enjoyed it; it was a step out my comfort zone. But for the most part, I liked being challenged and to construct a step by step process for the kids.
Subtopic Sections for Website
I actually had some fun creating these extra tabs. Now that I know and understand what I am trying to accomplish, I enjoy fiddling and doing trial and error with layout of the page as well as the pictures and what to write. When deciding on the three extra tabs, I just thought about criteria that would add to the website as a learning tool. I chose to go with personal references, a general health website for teens and the a page that informed how the body works when stricken with Sickle Cell. All
